    More Chinese relief aid sent to Myanmar flood victims

    The emergency relief aid from the Chinese government arrived at the Yangon International Airport on Saturday night to help flood victims in Myanmar.

    The aid worth 1.63 million U.S. dollars covered a large number of motor boats which will be used in rescue operations in the flood-hit areas of the country.

    The Chinese flood relief mission, led by Ambassador Hong Liang, had earlier donated relief aid worth 300,000 U.S. dollars to the flood-hit areas in Sagaing and Magway regions as well as Rakhine State.

    China's southwestern Yunnan provincial government has also handed over relief aid worth 395,081 U.S. dollars to the Myanmar side in Mandalay recently.

    Meanwhile, Chinese Enterprises Association in Myanmar and two copper mining companies on Friday donated 40,000 U.S. dollars' worth of emergency relief aid including rice and oil to 4,617 households from 32 villages in Monywa, Sagaing Region.

    At present, two batches of Chinese Blue Sky Rescue Team are carrying out rescue operations in the flood-hit areas of the country, including Rakhine state, one of the four declared disaster zones.

    According to updated figures from the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, death toll from the severe flooding since June has risen to more than 106 in Myanmar, with Rakhine state suffering the most and across the country over 1.3 million people affected.

    The severe flooding has inundated more than 572,374 hectares of farmland, of which 213,974 hectares have been destroyed, including 117,943 hectares in Rakhine state, the figures showed

    Nationwide, there are 14 regions and states affected; four of them - Rakhine, Chin, Sagaing and Magway were declared disaster zones on July 31. A lot of houses, farmland, railway lines, bridges and roads have also been damaged.
