Offices rank highest for smoking violations

Two months into the June 1 implementation of the Beijing-wide smoking ban, which was called "the strictest" by the media, the city's public health hotline 12320 reported receiving a total of 5,144 reports of violations. About 40 percent of the violations occurred in office buildings, the Beijing Daily reported.

It has been analyzed that the reasons lie in the lack of a complete smoking management system in many office buildings, without standard signs or hotlines to report violations.

Smoking is banned in all indoor public places, workplaces and public transportation, and violating the ban can lead to a 200 yuan ($32) fine for individuals and up to 10,000 yuan fine for businesses.
