Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong met with Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak in Kuala Lumpur Thursday, and the two leaders pledged to further promote bilateral communication and cooperation.

Liu conveyed the best wishes of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang to Najib, saying that she came to Kuala Lumpur to demonstrate the Chinese government's firm support to Beijing in its bid for the 2022 Winter Olympics to the 128th International Olympic Committee Session.

She said that the purpose of bidding for the 2022 Winter Olympics is to promote the development of winter sports in China and help Chinese citizens keep fit, while making further contribution to the Olympics movement.

Liu said that Malaysia is China's important and close partner in Southeast Asia, and the two countries enjoy strong complementarities and huge potential in cooperation. China is willing to keep high level exchanges with Malaysia, to align the two countries' development strategies, and increase their cooperation in the fields of trade and economy, education, sports, youth and tourism, so as to enhance the comprehensive strategic partnership and realize common development of the two countries.

Najib asked Liu to convey his best wishes to the Chinese leaders, and wished good luck to Beijing in its bid for the 2022 Winter Olympics.

The Malaysian prime minister said that he always attaches great importance to developing Malaysia-China relations, and has set new targets on further strengthening bilateral cooperation and ties ever since he took office.

Najib said that Malaysia supports China in establishing the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and materializing its Belt and Road initiative.

He hoped that the two countries could further strengthen communication and coordination, and deepen pragmatic cooperation in various fields like trade, economy and tourism.
