Beijing needs to relocate its concentrated municipal administrative organs from downtown to its east suburban Tongzhou district, to ease the pressure of overcrowding on public services, experts from the capital's top social sciences think tank said on Tuesday.
The Beijing Academy of Social Sciences has released the annual report on public services (2014-15) on Tuesday, saying the gap of public services in different regions has not narrowed in recent years. The suburban areas of the capital have had their economic growth prioritized by the municipal government, and yet the public services including education and health have been poor, failing to fuel the suburban economy and not relieving overcrowding in the downtown area as expected, it said.
The report suggested that the municipal government relocate its administrative organs out of the current downtown areas to its eastern suburb, Tongzhou district to improve public services and attract more people to move out of the overcrowded downtown areas.
