The Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences is in the process of developing the first air quality standards in China for Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei Province, the Beijing Youth Daily reported.

Additionally, the government plans to invest 590 million yuan ($95 million) to improve air quality in these regions.

In 2013, the central government issued 10 measures to reduce air pollution in China, with a specific focus on Beijing. According to the measures, by 2017 the PM2.5 level in Beijing should be down by 25 percent to 60 micrograms per cubic meter.
