Myanmar Vice President Sai Mauk Kham said on Monday that China will remain as Myanmar's key strategic partner.

Speaking at an event in commemoration of the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Myanmar, Sai said the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence are still relevant in today's complicated international relations.

He recalled that leaders of China, Myanmar and India jointly celebrated in Beijing last year the 60th anniversary of the introduction of the five principles.

He revealed that peace process with ethnic armed groups in Myanmar is underway and the signing of the nationwide ceasefire agreement is expected to be realized soon.

Pointing out that economic cooperation between the two countries has been growing gradually and significantly, he highlighted that China is the top investor in Myanmar.

Noting that China and Myanmar are both at the important stage of deepening reform, and the friendly relations between the two countries are facing new situation and opportunities, Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Yang Houlan said on the occasion that the Chinese people are making efforts to realize the Chinese Dream of the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, while Myanmar is undergoing a comprehensive reform steadily towards building a modern state that is peaceful, democratic, prosperous and open.

Yang expressed China's wishes to work together with Myanmar, carrying on and developing the spirit of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, to enhance political mutual trust, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, consolidate traditional friendship and enrich the substance of the China-Myanmar Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership to strive for establishing the new type of international relations featuring equality and mutual trust, inclusiveness and mutual learning, as well as win-win cooperation.

He voiced China's firm support for the development path chosen by Myanmar according to its national condition, hoping that Myanmar would continue its political stability, economic development and society harmony.

Yang spoke of China's wishes to enhance practical cooperation with Myanmar under the framework of "One Belt One Road" and BCIM initiative to benefit the two peoples, exploring more contacts and exchanges with Myanmar political parties, civil organizations and media to enhance mutual understanding and trust and jointly promote the cause of the China-Myanmar friendship.

Noting that the destinies of China and Myanmar are closely connected, the ambassador called for joint efforts to push forward the China-Myanmar Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership to a new stage and create a better future of China-Myanmar relations.

China and Myanmar established diplomatic ties in 1950.
