A box office record breaker in his home country, Bollywood star Aamir Khan said he would like to see more film collaborations between China and India.

"I think Indians would love to see stories that show the two cultures and characters from China and India interacting. Stories that are naturally involving Indians and Chinese," he said in an exclusive interview with Xinhua.

Khan didn't hesitate to state his appreciation for the films of Jackie Chan. He said he enjoyed Chan's film "Police Story 2" so much that he bought another ticket after the first screening and watched it again back-to-back.

Both actors will appear in the China-India co-production "Kung Fu Yoga," which was announced last year.

Khan is in China to promote his latest film "PK," which will debut in the country on May 22.

"PK" has become the highest-grossing film of all time in India, collecting over 100 million U.S. dollars worldwide since its release last December.

The satirical science fiction comedy tells the story of an alien (played by Khan) who happens to land in India and ends up questioning the country's religious dogma and traditions.

Khan also starred in India's second-highest-grossing movie, Dhoom 3.

When asked about the success of "PK," Khan cited the film's storyline and the efforts of director Rajkumar Hirani.

"The base of a good movie is a good story. I think Rajkumar has that strength. He's also a writer himself. So his understanding of drama and storytelling is very strong. And he says it to you with a lot of humor," Khan said."So this is a strong combination of drama and humor."

All of Hirani's films have been blockbusters in India, including "3 Idiots," which arrived in Chinese theaters in 2011.

However, Khan made sure to point out that Hirani didn't make "PK" just to please the audience. "He's not trying to figure out what the audience wants to hear. And I don't think as a writer and director he will ever compromise his vision," Khan said.

PK has stirred up controversy in India, as it touches on controversial religious issues.

Khan defended this aspect of the film as well."I respect every opinion. There were some protests from some political groups, but the success of the film tells us that the majority of people love the film," he said.

Khan's visit coincides with that of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will be in China from Thursday to Saturday. Khan said he hopes Modi's visit will be a success.
