Fengtai district protects 74-year-old bathhouse

The Fengtai district government declared on January 21 that a gatehouse and screen wall of an old public bathhouse built in 1931 in Changxindian, Fengtai district was an immovable cultural relic, according to the Legal Mirror.

The identification department said it was rare for a public bathhouse to have a gatehouse that kept records of the bathhouse's history. Zeng Yizhi, a cultural relic protection volunteer, said the nine day identification process was the fastest she had ever heard of. Usually, the process takes years.

The public bathhouse was built for Beijing-Hankou Railway workers and their families. The main part of the bathhouse was torn down last month to make space for a parking lot.
