Police bust drug gang in southwest China

Police uncovered a drug ring and apprehended two suspects on Sunday morning in southwest China's Yunnan province.

Two packages containing 68.6 kilograms of heroin were found when police stopped a vehicle at a checkpoint along the route from Nansan Township in the city of Lincang to Kunming city, the provincial capital, said public security department of Kunming on Monday.

The nationwide campaign launched to "ban drugs in hundreds of cities" has driven up the price of drugs, a police officer said. Sunday's haul of 68.6 kilograms of heroin is estimated to cost around ten million yuan.

Police in Kunming have discovered 633 drug-related crimes, arrested 630 suspects, captured 432.4 kilograms of drugs, and placed 1,921 people under compulsory rehab programs, since the nationwide campaign started in October.
