The skull fossil of a mammoth has been found by a sheep farmer in northwest China's Qinghai province. Archaeologists have confirmed the discovery and made the initial excavation.

Experts believe the mammoth fossil could be 150,000 years old, judging from the age of logs recovered near the site.

Archaeologists say this discovery provides a glimpse of the development of the area's environment. The fossil has been moved to the Qinghai Provincial Museum for further examination.

The mammoth is an extinct species with long, curved tusks and a covering of long hair. They lived from around 5 million years ago to about 4,500 years ago in Africa, Europe, Asia, and North America.
