Beijing tops list with 5.37 mln cars

As people's living standard continues to improve, cars have become increasingly indispendable in China.

According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, there are currently 137 million cars in China. In terms of cities, Beijing has the largest number of cars, with some 5.37 million vehicles. The capital is followed by Chongqing, Chengdu, Shenzhen and Shanghai.

Not surprisingly, the large number of cars on the roads causes significant traffic jams. Statistics show Shanghai as the most congested city in the country, followed by Hangzhou, Beijing, Chongqing, Shenzhen and Guangzhou.
