China's Shaolin Temple gets over 300 applicants for new media manager

A job position advertised by Shaolin Temple in Henan province seeking media personnel drew 300 high-quality applicants, such as overseas returnees and senior media execs, media reported on Thursday.

The 1,500-year-old temple is seeking a "chief editor" and "chief inspector" to handle its new media and social networking campaigns, according to a Monday post on Sina Weibo account @Yuji, an intangible asset management company charged with handling the hiring.

"Shaolin Temple is trying to better reach its believers and strengthen the publicity of Shaolin culture worldwide through new technology," explained Qian, a manager at the company.

The post generated nearly 300 resumes in two days, 80 of which have been eliminated, said a report.

"To my surprise, quite a few of the applicants are top-notch," said a @Yuji representative surnamed Yang.

"[The salary] is competitive," said Yang, who added the two positions have yet to be filled.
