    Japanese PM conveys condolences to China over quake in Yunnan

    Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe offered condolences to Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang on Monday, as China is dealing with the aftermath of an earthquake that left at least 381 people dead in the southwest province of Yunnan.

    Abe expressed "heartfelt sympathy and condolences" to the government and people of China, and said that Japan is ready to extend support to help China cope with the aftermath of the quake, Japanese Foreign Ministry said.

    The 6.5-maginitude quake, which struck Ludian County of Yunnan Province at 4:30 p.m. Sunday (Beijing Time), has left 381 people dead and three others missing as of 10 a.m. Monday. About 1.09 million people have been affected by the quake, with 1,800 wounded and 230,000 relocated.

    Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida conveyed a similar message to Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, according to the ministry.
