Salary expectations for college graduates have increased by 2,000 yuan year-on-year despite the fact that this year has been called the toughest year to get a job, the Beijing Youth Daily reported.

A record high 7.27 million graduates will enter China's workforce this year, with 77 percent of them expecting a salary between 4,000 to 6,000 yuan. But reports show that 38.9 percent of this year's graduates have not landed a job yet, and 35.9 percent of graduates still view State-run enterprises as their first choice.

According to ChinaHR.com, an on-line employment agency, higher living costs and the desire to realize self-worth through salary are the reasons fresh graduates have higher salary expectations.
