The aviation administration on Monday night issued a red alert, the highest of its kind, on massive flight delays in East China.

Between 2 pm and 6 pm on Tuesday, the two airports in Shanghai, Pudong International Airport and Hongqiao International Airport, experienced a 75 percent drop in their traffic capabilities. During that period, eight airports in east China stopped accepting flight landings, and nine airports in southeast China stopped flight routes to the north.

Meanwhile, the administration suspended operating applications from corporate aircraft and chartered aircraft during the period.

Last Saturday, the aviation administration issued its second highest orange alert. It was the first time a flight travel condition alert was published to the public. It was followed by a red alert last Sunday. The authorities blame the flight delays on weather conditions.
