More than 360 historical buildings in Xicheng district will be repaired and opened to visitors for free in the coming years, the Beijing Daily reported.

The buildings will act as small museums that exhibit Beijing's intangible cultural heritage, inviting people to step into China's extensive history. The government's plan already has had several successful pilot projects, including the No.93 courtyard which is filled with folk crafts such as Rabbit God, dough figurines and royal court embroidery.

Other small museums will include Changchun Temple, which hosts performances of shadow puppetry, and the Huoshen Temple, where people can appreciate and share their passion for Chinese calligraphy and painting.
