Chinese military academy opens to journalists

The Academy of Armored Forces Engineering on Tuesday welcomed 112 journalists from China and abroad, marking the first time a Chinese military school was opened to news reporting.

Reporters from 61 media organizations around the globe had a close look at emulation robots, all-terrain vehicles, tanks and armored cars while watching student military drills at the academy.

The Beijing-based Academy of Armored Forces Engineering, established in 1953, is China's elite academy for cultivating armored forces.

Since 2008, China has invited foreign journalists to grass-roots military camps to let the world know more about the country's army.
