Beijing's Chang'an Avenue to get face-lift

Beijing's Chang'an Avenue will undergo some maintenance work from this week until September 30, the Beijing Times reported Friday.

Authorities said the work includes refining the asphalt on top of the one-meter-thick explosion-proof layer above the Beijing Subway Line 1 which runs under Chang'an Avenue.

Chang'an Avenue, which passes important locations such as Tian'anmen Square, the Great Hall of the People, central government buildings and the National Museum, is a major thoroughfare in the capital city of Beijing.
