In China's northeastern province of Heilongjiang, a wild Siberian tiger has been caught on camera taking a summer swim.

Two local fisherman filmed the big cat paddling itself across the Ussuri River in Fuyuan county. The tiger's orange and black striped body clearly stood out against the blue water.

After reaching the shore, the tiger quickly jumped into the bushes, leaving only its footprints behind. This is the first time a wild Siberian tiger has been discovered in the region.

Estimates suggest there are only around 350 of the subspecies in the wild. Siberian tigers have adapted distinct traits to live in frozen climates, thousands of miles away from their cousins in Southern China, India and Indonesia.
