Prefab exam buildings assembled for students in quake-hit region

More than 1,000 students in a quake-hit area of southwest China's Yunnan Province will take their national college entrance examinations (NCEE) in prefabricated houses on Saturday.

As of Wednesday, 40 prefab houses had been assembled as exam rooms, and another 80 as classrooms and dormitories for the students and teachers, said Zhang Ming, an official with the provincial housing and urban-rural development department on Thursday.

A 6.1-magnitude earthquake jolted Yunnan's Yingjiang County on Friday, injuring 43 people and forcing the evacuation of an additional 35,000.

The NCEE, also known as the "gaokao" in Chinese, is an extremely important event for Chinese high school students, as it can determine which university they will attend and therefore shape their future careers.
