Beijing strengthens 24-hour patrols

Security is being stepped up in the capital Beijing, with forces deployed to 14 crowded areas, including railway stations and commercial centers. Police say they can respond to an emergency within one minute.

Beijing police have deployed 150 armed patrol vehicles around the clock. They're equipped with riot-control guns and revolvers. Beijing Evening News says five police helicopters are carrying regular patrols in the city.
