An electronic testing system for water quality in 80 swimming pools is expected to be finished by the end of June.

The system, operated by health watchdog Beijing Health Inspection (BHI), will report hygienic and environmental conditions to the public, news portal qianlong.com reported.

The system will detect pollutants, pH levels and water temperature. Staff and health supervisors will receive warnings when excessive amounts of harmful substances are detected to allow them to respond to the situation.

Meanwhile, BHI is also devising a system for monitoring indoor air quality at 192 public areas in Beijing.

Residents will be able to check readings on water quality in pools and indoor air quality via smartphone apps, Sina Weibo and WeChat.
