Fifty percent of Beijing residents polled recently say they are willing to move out of Beijing if their work units move, China Youth Daily reported on Thursday.

A recent survey of 2,502 Beijing residents by the newspaper's investigation center showed 76.5 percent of respondents believe China needs a secondary political center and 57.6 percent hope such a center could help solve the traffic and pollution problems Beijing faces.

Among those who took part in the survey, 26 percent were employees of private firms, 18.9 percent worked in public institutions, 14.1 percent were from research institutes or universities, 13.6 percent were in State-owned companies, 11.5 percent were employees in foreign-invested firms and 10 percent were governmental officials.
