A hole was spotted at the tomb of Peking opera master Tan Xinpei (1847-1917). The tomb is located in Liyuanzhuang village in Mentougou district, the Beijing Youth Daily reported.

The tomb keeper, surnamed Yu, discovered the cavity - 20 centimeters long and 8 centimeters deep - on April 25. Suspecting grave robbers, Yu reported the case to the local police. Tan Zhengyan, a Peking opera actor and the 7th successor of Tan family, said there were no valuable objects in the grave. Police are investigating.

In 2009, the tomb of Peking opera master Mei Lanfang was defaced by graffiti. In 2010, the grave of Chinese painter Qi Baishi was covered with garbage.
