Malaysia to form intl team to investigate MH370 incident

An international investigation team had been approved to be formed by Malaysian cabinet on Wednesday to investigate the missing MH370 flight incident, Malaysian acting Transport Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said Wednesday. [Special coverage]

"The main purpose of the International Investigation Team is to evaluate, investigate and determine the actual cause of the incident so similar incidents could be avoided in the future," he said.

He also said the investigation would not include criminal aspects which were under the preview of the police.

When asked by Xinhua about a report by local media that the investigation team might consider the possibility that the plane had landed somewhere instead of having ended in the Southern Indian Ocean, the minister said "no, as far as landing is concerned, at the beginning of our search, there was speculation about the plane safely landing in Nanning, which was not true. So basically, we stick to our template. Any leads would be followed up, but we will only announce it when it is verified and also corroborated."

When asked about whether the satellite data of Inmarsat would be reconsidered, he said "on the satellite data, like I said, I assume and I do not speak for the prime minister of Australia, when we have to regroup and restrategize, it is a matter to look at all the data, whether it is satellite, whether it is radar."
