Celebrity couple's extramarital affair leads trends on Sina Weibo

An extramarital affair involving a celebrity couple and an actress has exploded across the Chinese Internet.

At 12:04 am on Monday, movie actor Wen Zhang posted a long statement on his Sina Weibo confessing to an affair and apologizing to his wife Ma Yili. Three minutes later, Ma posted "Falling in love is easy, marriage is not. Walk on and cherish."

Wen's statement has been reposted over 1 million times.

Ma gave birth to the couple's second child earlier this year .

The impetus for the confession began on Friday when Sina Weibo user Baoliaofuyiqu disclosed that Wen had cheated on Ma with actress Yao Di for several months.

Wen and Yao used to star as the main actor and actress on the popular TV series Down-to-Earth Marriage.

It was also revealed at the time that key photographs to prove the extramarital affair is true would be published in Southern Metropolis Entertainment Weekly on Monday.

These photographs can now be found throughout the Internet.

As the message exploded on the Internet thousands of Net users commented on Wen's Weibo saying "See you on Monday," while messages calling for Yao to get out of the entertainment business and telling Ma to be strong circulated across the Web. All three topics were leading trends on Weibo all throughout the weekend.
