Doctor battling depression jumps from local hospital

A doctor leapt to his death at Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center Monday, local media reported.

The doctor, surnamed Zhang, had received treatment for depression at another hospital before he returned to the Shanghai Cancer Center, the local news portal eastday.com reported. Zhang jumped from the hospital's inpatient department at 12:23 pm.

The hospital rushed Zhang to the nearby Zhongshan Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries at 2:28 pm.

The Shanghai Cancer Center said that it cared for Zhang during his treatment for long-term depression.

In another case, a large oxygen tank began leaking after it was damaged Monday afternoon. It was unclear whether the damage was related to the suicide.

The Shanghai Cancer Center cancelled scheduled surgeries to make sure there would be enough oxygen for the surgeries already underway.
