Still no evidence of wreckage of missing Malaysian plane: Malaysia Airlines

An international search and rescue mission has so far failed to find evidence of any wreckage of a missing Malaysia Airlines flight, more than 24 hours after it was last heard, Malaysia Airlines said in its latest media statement released on Sunday.

"An international search and rescue mission from Malaysia, Singapore and Vietnam was mobilized this morning. At this stage, they have failed to find evidence of any wreckage," the statement said.

"The search and rescue team is yet to determine the whereabouts of the Boeing 777-200 aircraft."

The sea mission will continue overnight while the air mission will recommence at daylight, it added.

The situation in Beijing is also being monitored closely, the company said, and a "Go Team" has been deployed to Beijing to assist the family members of the passengers, as many families of passengers are in China.

There will be a press conference at Sama Sama Hotel here at 9: 00 a.m. Sunday by the Department of Civil Aviation of Malaysia, according to the statement.

Flight MH370, a Boeing B777-200 aircraft carrying 239 people, departed Kuala Lumpur at 0:41 a.m. (1641 GMT) Saturday and was due to land in Beijing at 6:30 a.m. (2230 GMT). The aircraft was last heard at 1:30 a.m. (1730 GMT) Saturday.
