Buddhist relics return to Yunju Temple

Buddhist relics said to be from the body of Sakyamuni, the founder of Buddhism, will return to Yunju Temple in Fangshan district, where they were first found, the Beijing Daily reported.

After the Yunju Temple cultural scenic spot project is finished in 2016, the relics will be returned there; aside from a week-long exhibition at the temple in 2009, they have been kept in an underground storage room at the Capital Museum.

The red corn-shaped relics, discovered in the Leiyin Cave of the temple in 1981, are one of the "three precious" sets of relics in China. The others are Buddha's teeth in Beijing's Lingguang Temple and a set of Buddha figure relics at Famen Temple in Xi'an, Shaanxi province.
