China's railway police said Monday they had seized more than one million fake train tickets and arrested eight suspects in a case they had been working on since last November.

Acting on a tip-off in November 2013, railway police in central China's Wuhan city arrested a suspect surnamed Zhou, who allegedly had sold as many as 18,325 fake tickets online since 2011.

Further investigation led to the arrests of more suspects, and the seizure of more than one million fake tickets, fake official stamps and fake invoices, police said.

According to the China Railway Corporation, about 257.8 million people are expected to travel by rail during the 40-day busy transportation season of Spring Festival, a traditional Chinese holiday for family reunions.
