On December 23, 628 livestock farms in Beijing began implementing measures to prevent bird flu. According to Pang Xinghuo, deputy director of the Beijing Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), no H5N2 or new H7N9 cases have yet been reported in Beijing, the Beijing Times reported.

Pang said that H5N2 is a strain of highly pathogenic avian influenza, currently only transmitted between animals. No cases of humans infected by H5N2 has been found, but CDC will continue to monitor the situation. Pang said that H10N8, a strain that has been reported in Jiangxi province, has been detected in poultry but not found in Beijing yet.

The livestock farms are being required to intensify the frequency of disinfection and immunization efforts; live animals transported to Beijing will be strictly monitored.
