Renmin University of China will suspend its independent admissions system next year, allegedly due to a recent investigation of its admissions director, Cai Rongsheng, who was accused of involvement in taking multiple kickbacks.

The university has been excluded as a member of the federation led by Tsinghua University, established in 2011, in which members hold an independent exam to recruit prospective students. There are now only six participating institutions, according to an announcement by Tsinghua University Sunday.

A staff member from Tsinghua University said that the decision to exclude the university from the federation must be made by education authorities as other universities are not eligible to do so, Legal Mirror reported Sunday. The university will also suspend its own independent exam in 2014.

Cai was detained in late November when allegedly trying to use a fake passport to flee abroad from Shenzhen airport in Guangdong province.
