Child-care center shut down after two girls go missing

The Minhang District Education Bureau closed down a local child-care center Wednesday after two girls in its care went missing, local media reported.

The two girls, aged 3 and 4, were found at a teahouse 3 kilometers away from the center. They had been missing for two hours, according to a report on xinmin.cn.

The girls' parents arrived at the center around 6 pm to pick up their daughters, only to find that the girls were missing. The parents called police around 7 pm after they failed to locate the girls.

The center, which is run out of a classroom at Shanghai Lanzhiyu Art School, was caring for eight children. It charged their parents 660 yuan ($108) per month for each child.

The art school's head, surnamed Bao, said she rented the room to the center.

The district's education bureau also found that the center was unlicensed.
