Seven schools in Shenzhen will be allowed to admit children born in Hong Kong to Chinese mainland parents according to the education agreement signed by Hong Kong and Shenzhen, Hong Kong Chief Secretary Carrie Lam said Monday.

Speaking to the media after the 2013 Hong Kong-Shenzhen Cooperation Meeting with Shenzhen Mayor Xu Qin, Lam said that Hong Kong and Shenzhen signed cooperation agreements on education, tourism and technology.

Lam said that these seven schools provide classes for Hong Kong children, and their curriculum can be linked to Hong Kong schools. The new agreement includes children born in Hong Kong to Chinese mainland parents to this program. These Children can take part in Hong Kong's secondary school places allocation.

She said the new arrangement does not mean Hong Kong schools no longer welcome cross-boundary students. It simply provides more options for these children to choose to study in Shenzhen instead of being cross-boundary students.

Other future work between Hong Kong and Shenzhen includes the Lok Ma Chau Loop development, and to ensure cross-boundary infrastructure projects are completed on time, Lam added.
