A former official who received a life sentence for bribery has decided not to appeal, Beijing Times reported on Tuesday.

Tian Xueren, former deputy governor of Jilin province, was sentenced to life imprisonment on Nov 1 for taking more than 19 million yuan ($3 million) in bribes, according to Beijing No 1 Intermediate People's Court.

Xu Lanting, Tian's lawyer, said that his client was satisfied with the judgment and would not appeal to a higher court.

In July 2012, the Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China investigated Tian's affairs, finding that he had accepted large bribes, said the report.

With the approval of the CPC Central Committee, Tian was removed from the CPC and discharged from public employment. The money he received in bribes was confiscated, the paper said.

Tian, born in 1947, served as executive governor of the province from 2004 to 2007. From 2008 to 2012, he was chairman of the Bank of Jilin.
