Suspect confessed to killing 3 kids for revenge

The suspect in the killings of three children on their way to school in Yueyang county, Hunan province, told police he did it for revenge over an insult, Beijing Youth Daily reported on Thursday.

Zhang Xingyan, a villager of the county, killed the three students after taking them to a nearby city in a black car on Oct 30, police told the newspaper.

The victims were two girls, both 9 years old, and a boy, 8. All lived in Zhang's village.

Zhang was arrested on Friday and confessed to the killings over the weekend, according to police.

Zhang said he just wanted to kill the boy, whose family looked down on him, but he decided to kill the two girls because he was afraid they would tell someone, the report said.

Zhang said he was enraged by an insult from the boys' grandfather, who once told him not to build a house higher than the one occupied by the boy's family. He said he held the anger in his heart for a long time, according to the report.
