As China Fashion Week continues, new and up-coming designers are being recognized. A joint fashion show celebrating China's top emerging designers has just concluded in Beijing. The show was the final of the first Emerging Fashion Designer contest that began back in August.

Elegant and mysterious. The work of Yang Boxian from Suzhou University evokes images of the forest, merging natural colours with glazed accessories. The use of silk is also a nod to Chinese culture and seems to bring out the peace and mystery of the natural world.

Each of the contestants is required to present 8-10 designs to be appraised by the panel of judges. The second contestant challenges conventional ideas of masculinity, introducing long skirts for men, along with bright greens and over-sized jackets which channel the 1980s.

"The collar is in a Chinese style, and the suit is quite loose. If you look closely, you can see some interesting wrinkles, these are bamboo leaf-shaped fabrics which create a more delicate touch. " said Zhu Jian, Jianghan University.

The third collection features women's wear inspired by the murals on the interior of the China World Summit Wing. The designer wanted to highlight the confidence of modern women yet retain feminine beauty.

"This design recreates the effect of the murals and also the view you have of the mountains. The curves and shape of the fabrics look like the cracks you find in mountains." said Tan Xiaowei, Guangzhou University.
