    China sends 4 observers to monitor Madagascar presidential polls

    Four Chinese observers sent to Madagascar to monitor the upcoming presidential elections were received on Wednesday by the Indian Ocean island country's Foreign Minister Ulrich Andriantiana.

    On behalf of the Malagasy government, the minister expressed gratitude to China for "the important and brotherly cooperation between Madagascar and China, but especially for the presence of China in this election period."

    Andriantiana said China, Madagascar's unavoidable trading partner, is one of the few countries which did not suspend aid and helped the country come though the political crisis.

    The minister said the presence of international observers is a symbol of support for Madagascar, pledging security for all international observers.

    Cheng Tao, head of the Chinese observers, thanked the Malagasy government for inviting China to participate in the mission, which marks a trust between the two countries.

    Cheng also said China is closely following the situation in Madagascar with great interest and hope that the country will regain prosperity and stability in all areas.

    The Chinese observers wished the success of the election characterized by peace, justice and transparency in the interest of the Malagasy people.

    China and Madagascar established the diplomatic ties in 1972.
