Man jumps in river trying to avoid checkpoint

A Guangxi man's ill-advised attempt to avoid a checkpoint ended with him jumping in a nearby river after failing a primary blood alcohol test, the Nanguo Morning Post reported.

Liuzhou city authorities explained the 30-year-old driver surnamed Wei leaped into the nearby Liujiang River while trying to flee from a drunk driving checkpoint around 8:50 pm on October 18.

Wei made his wet escape after a police officer requested to retake a breathalyzer test after he had failed the first time.

Surprisingly, after being rescued from the river, Wei successfully passed the test. He also had consumed a notable amount of river water during the ordeal.

Wei admitted to police he had drank a half-cup of beer before driving and escaped in fear of being caught.

He was released at the scene after a stern warning.
