Young Net addicts surveyed

According to a survey of Beijing schools, about 20,000 students are heavily addicted to the Internet, and 70 percent of them are addicted to video games, the Beijing News reported.

Shen Qiyun, professor at Beijing Normal University, said that questionnaires were filled out by students in 118 primary school, junior schools, and high schools in eight districts of Beijing. According to the survey, 1.4 percent of Beijing's 1.2 million students are heavy Internet addicts and half of the students often play games online. The survey also found that such students tend to be involved in behaviors such as verbal bullying, identity theft and spreading false information.
