Eight leaders or representative of the APEC members arrived in Bali Saturday for the 21st APEC summit scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, according to information released by the summit media center.

Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto became the first leader to arrive, followed by CY Leung, chief executive of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Vincent Siew, representative of Chinese Taipei, Papua New Guinea Prime Minister Peter O'Neill, host Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Chilean President Sebastian Pinera.

As U.S. President Barack Obama canceled his planned Asia trip, including the APEC summit, to deal with the shutdown of the U.S. government due to budget standoff, Secretary of State John Kerry, who is currently here for the APEC Ministerial Meeting, will attend the summit on his behalf.

Leaders present at the summit, with the theme "Resilient Asia Pacific, engine of global growth," will focus their discussion on attaining the Borgor Goals, achieving sustainable growth with equity, promoting connectivity and other issues.
