Tunnel experiences 12-car pileup

A 12-car pileup occurred during morning rush hour Thursday in the Xizang Road South Tunnel due to an askew manhole cover. No one was injured.

The manhole cover was sticking out about 40 centimeters above the surface of the road. The impediment caused traffic to slow and eventually led to the accident. Authorities temporarily closed the tunnel's westbound lanes for about an hour.
