Abandoned 3-month-old found in hospital bathroom

A 3-month-old boy was found abandoned in a women's washroom at a hospital in Pudong New Area Wednesday morning, police said.

Police received a report around 10:50 am that a janitor at Renji Hospital had discovered a baby on the floor of a washroom along with a bundle of food and clothing, according to a microblog post from the Pudong New Area Public Security Bureau.

The baby suffered from a congenital disease, police said. They have sent him to Shanghai Children's Medical Center, where he will be cared for temporarily.

A microblog user posted a photo showing that the baby had been put down right beside a toilet.

The hospital said that surveillance camera footage showed that a woman holding a baby had entered the washroom around 10:30 am, but she left empty handed, the news portal xinmin.cn reported.
