Thousands flood China's 'Dead Sea' to beat heat

More than 15,000 swimmers squeezed in for a swim in China's 'Dead Sea', an indoor swimming resort in Southwest China's Sichuan Province, to beat the scorching summer heat on July 28, reported people.com.cn.

Thousands visited the park to escape the heatwave currently scorching Sichuan Province, as outside temperatures reached 38 C, according to the local weather bureau.

This man-made 'sea' located in Suining, Daying county, much like its namesake, contains high salt and mineral content to keep swimmers buoyant.

A spokesman at the scenic area said the park had managed to keep the number of tourists under control to guarantee order and safety, though the park is said to accommodate only 10,000.

According to park employees, over a million swimmers visit the park every summer, which includes a golf course and full spa.
