    3 children saved as rescue continues

    A military official says the death toll in last week's Gansu earthquake is 95 and the disaster has affected more than 780 thousand people.

    "The army has saved 3 children buried under the ruins, and dug out 2 corpses. They have also cleared 156 destroyed buildings. 566 camps have been constructed, 172 people have been moved to safe places. We have set up one emergency military camp and one emergency hospital. Currently 1,311 injured people have been treated there." Wang Wenjie, PLA Lanzhou Military Command.

    The local authority has relocated a total of 268,000 people in six affected cities. Rescue and relief work are continuing. The People's Liberation Army has sent more than 5-thousand personnel to the quake zone.

    More than 280 large machine have been sent to clear roads blocked by landslides. Two helicopters are helping evacuate residents. Electricity has been restored in six towns, and roads leading to the quake zone have reopened. Police are guiding traffic to ensure the smooth delivery of relief supplies including tents, medicines and food. Trains between Baoji and Tianshui city are running again, and Lanzhou station has reopened.
