WeChat, the popular mobile instant messaging application developed by Chinese Internet giant Tencent, said on its Weibo account Monday that users were temporarily unable to access the app due to damage to two network cables.

It apologized for the inconvenience and said Monday afternoon that WeChat's functions have been recovered.

Media reported Monday that some WeChat users overseas and in large parts of China such as capital Beijing and East China's Zhejiang Province were anxious because they were unable to use any WeChat services on Monday morning.

Analysts said that this exposed Chinese users' reliance on Tencent services. WeChat has 300 million domestic users and 70 million more overseas.
