Air-raid shelters opened for people to avoid heat

The heat wave has hit Fujian Province in Southeast China. Temperatures in the region have reached 38 degrees Celsius, and the hot weather is expected to continue for some time.

No one can escape from the heat wave. They can only try and reduce their exposure to the scorching sun. Fujian Meteorological center has issued a heat wave alert, predicting that high temperature will last until Friday.

"You can't bear the heat of noon."

"It's too hot. I take two or three showers a day to cool down."

A continuous heat wave makes people uncomfortable and sometimes sick. This old man suffered sunstroke and had to be looked after by his neighbor. To help people avoid the hot weather, Fuzhou, capital of the province, has opened two air-raid shelters to the public, which are about 20 degree Celsius cooler than outside.

Inside the shelters, people can watch TV and even dance without sweating. Doctors have recommended people reduce their outdoor activities and drink more water.
