Rumbia to bring gales, storms to S China

Strong tropical storm Rumbia landed in south China early Tuesday morning and is expected to move northwest, bringing gales and storms to regions along its path.

The National Meteorological Center (NMC) said Rumbia, the sixth tropical storm that hit China this year, made landfall in the city of Zhanjiang in southern China's Guangdong Province at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The NMC said the storm will move northwest at a speed of 25 to 30 km per hour and will enter Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Tuesday morning as it weakens.

From Tuesday to Wednesday morning, Rumbia will bring gales of up to 100 km per hour to regions along its path, including some coastal areas in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Guangdong and Hainan provinces, the center said.

Rumbia will also bring heavy rain to some areas in Guangxi and the provinces of Guangdong, Hainan and Yunnan.

The NMC warned local authorities to take precautions against torrential floods or other natural disasters that could be triggered by the rain.
