937 arrested for counterfeiting invoices

Chinese police have arrested 937 people in connection with forging or selling counterfeit invoices, the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) revealed on Monday.

Police across the country have also confiscated 7.68 million counterfeit invoices and solved 1,058 cases of counterfeit invoice-related crime involving a total of 6.1 billion yuan (about 987.05 million US dollars), according to a statement issued by the ministry.

Economic losses of up to 200 million yuan have been recovered, according to the ministry.

Investigations concluded that the suspects used the counterfeit invoices to illegally obtain tax refunds or embezzle national assets, further spurring business chains to forge and trade such invoices, according to the ministry.

The MPS, along with the State Administration of Taxation, launched a campaign to crack down on counterfeit invoice-related crimes starting in May.
