Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chun Ying has commented on Snowden's departure from Hong Kong, saying the central government respects Hong Kong's handling of the case.

Hua Chunying, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman, said, "The HKSAR government has made a clear statement on Snowden's leaving. Hong Kong is a society with the rule of law. According to the Basic Law of the HKSAR and the principle of one country, two systems, China's central government always respects the HKSAR government's handling of relevant issues in accordance with law."

Edward Snowden departed Hong Kong for Moscow on Sunday, afer the US government asked for Hong Kong's assistance in arresting him. Hong Kong's government said it did not arrest Snowden due to insufficient information provided by Washington. Hua also expressed grave concern over reports of Snowden's revelation that Washington has hacked into the computer systems of major Chinese telecom operators and the prestigious Tsinghua University.
